1981年7月に、日本テレビ系のオーディション番組『スター誕生』にて山口百恵の「夢先案内人」を歌い、放送開始から10年を迎えていた人気番組のなかで歴代最高得点で合格。
翌1982年5月1日、シングル「スローモーション」にてデビュー。セカンド・シングル「少女A」で初のチャートトップ5入りを記録したのち、サード・シングル「セカンド・ラブ」で初のチャート1位を獲得。その後も1983年～1987年には5年連続で有線の年間最多リクエスト歌手賞を受賞、1987年の第1回日本ゴールドディスク大賞でも大賞を受賞するなどの大活躍ぶりでヒットを飛ばし続け、1991年までのワーナー在籍中に実に22曲ものナンバーワン・ヒットを記録した（企画盤シングル含む）。
歌のみならず、歌番組でのパフォーマンスや魅力的な衣装など、少女から大人の女性に成長していく中で文字通り時代を代表する歌姫として人々を魅了し続けた中森明菜。その魅力は今なお輝き続け、変わらない絶大な人気を誇っている。

During his tenure at Warner until 2010, he recorded 22 number one hits (including planned singles).
Akina Nakamori continued to fascinate people as a diva who literally represents the times as she grew from a girl to an adult woman, not only singing, but also performing on music programs and wearing attractive costumes. Its charm continues to shine even now, and it boasts a tremendous popularity that does not change.
