Miki Matsubara made her debut in 1979 with “Mayonaka no Door~stay with me,” a song that would go on to become one of the most iconic city‑pop tracks worldwide.
Trained in piano from an early age and inspired by jazz, she set her sights on a career in music.
Following her debut, she released 17 singles and 10 albums, including cover projects, establishing herself as a distinctive voice in the Japanese pop landscape.
Sadly, after a long battle with illness, she passed away in 2004, leaving behind a legacy that continues to resonate with listeners across generations.

松原みき初のベスト・アルバムとして1983年に発売。A面1曲目の「Paradise Beach (ソフィーのテーマ)」は、松本隆/細野晴臣によって制作され、仏女優ソフィー・マルソーが出演するTVコマーシャルに使用される。軽やかさと優雅さを持ったこの曲は、シングル・カットされた後にこのアルバムに収録された。
その他、シティポップの代名詞となった「真夜中のドア～stay with me」や、資生堂CMソング「ニートな午後3時」などシングル・カット5曲に加え、松原みき本人が作曲したラテン・タッチの「ハレーション」などを収録。
デビュー以降ヒットを続けた松原みきの3年間を凝縮したベスト・セレクション。
Information
The first best‑of album by Miki Matsubara, originally released in 1983, returns on a highly sought‑after colored vinyl edition (Clear Purple).
Issued as Matsubara’s debut compilation, the album opens with “Paradise Beach (Sophie’s Theme),” written by Takashi Matsumoto and Haruomi Hosono and featured in a TV commercial starring French actress Sophie Marceau. Light, elegant, and instantly memorable, the track was released as a single before being included on this album.
The collection also features five single cuts, including the city‑pop anthem “Mayonaka no Door – Stay With Me” and the Shiseido commercial song “Neat na Gogo 3‑ji,” along with “Halation,” a Latin‑influenced track composed by Matsubara herself.
Capturing the remarkable three‑year run of hits that followed her debut, this compilation stands as a definitive selection of Miki Matsubara’s early career.
