スカ・ジャズ・メッセンジャーズは、2009年にベネズエラのカラカスで結成されたバンドである。メンバーの不本意な脱退、そしてベネズエラが抱える政治的、経済的な逆境を経て、幾度となく生まれ変わってきた。しかし、自分たちのサウンドを再構築しようという情熱を絶やさず、今日、彼らはラテン・アメリカと自国において最も注目されるスカ・バンドのひとつとなった。
彼らはドイツ、フランス、スペイン、アメリカの雑誌やコンピレーションに参加し、メキシコ、コロンビア、チリといったこの地域の国々で興味深い人気を博している。デビュー・アルバム『Introspección』（Liquidator Music、スペイン、2020年）には、ビクター・ライス、プリンス・ファティ、ジョーイ・アルトルーダ、ハカセ・サン、エマーソン北村、西内徹、竹島悟、伝説の内田直之といった日本人ミュージシャンが参加したことは周知の通りである。
彼らのサウンドは、伝統的なスカ、ロックステディ、レゲエをベースに、即興とハーモニーにおけるジャズの繊細さと厳格さをミックスすることを追求しているが、同時に、よりポップでモダンな要素もミックスされている。「ポップ」で「モダン」なサウンドは、1966年のStudio One Recordingsのようなサウンドを目指すバンドの従来のサウンドとは一線を画している。過去数十年の素晴らしい曲のアレンジや新たな息吹を与えるものから、愛や社会的・人間的問題を歌詞にした彼ら自身の曲まで、様々な色や影響が混ざり合った興味深い作品を作り続けている。

Ska Jazz Messengers is a band formed in 2009 in Caracas, Venezuela. They have been reborn again and again after constant involuntary exoduses of members and after a lot of adversity typical of the country in which they reside. However, their fervent call to re-engineer their own sound has made them position themselves today as one of the most notable Ska bands in Latin America and in their country. They have had international participations in magazines and compilations from Germany, France, Spain and the USA and enjoy interesting popularity in countries of the region such as Mexico, Colombia or Chile. They sold out their debut album “Introspección” (Liquidator Music, Spain 2020) in which they have several international guests such as Victor Rice, Prince Fatty, Joey Altruda or Japanese musicians such as Hakase Sun, Emerson Kitamura, Tetsu Nishiuchi, Satoru Takeshima or the legendary Naoyuki Uchida.
Their sound seeks to mix traditional Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae with the finesse rigor of Jazz in improvisation and harmonies but at the same time mixing everything with things in a more... “Pop” and "Modern" sound, distant from the conventional sound from a band that tries to sound like a Studio 1 recording in 1966. It is an interesting mix of colors and influences that range from arranging and giving new life to wonderful songs from past decades, to their own songs with lyrics of love and social-human concerns.

ベネズエラを拠点とし、オーセンティックなジャマイカン・ソウルミュージックをこよなく愛し、スカ、ロックステディ、レゲエサウンドを展開するSka Jazz Messengers。彼らが今年の5月にシティポップの名曲、池田典代の”Dream In The Street”を、驚きの日本語カヴァーで発表しましたが、な、なんと今回は角松敏生の作詞、作曲で’83年に発表された杏里の”SHYNESS BOY”を、スペイン語の歌詞を乗せて果敢にカヴァーしました！もちろんアレンジは彼らならではのゴキゲンなスカ・チューンで、これはもう踊らずにはいられない！そんな作品に仕上がりました。B-Sideにはラヴァーズなビートに変換し、強烈なダブ処理を施したNightlight Mixを収録。どちらも現場で大きな話題必至のシングルです！

The Venezuela-based Ska Jazz Messengers, lovers of authentic Jamaican soul music, have been developing their ska, rocksteady, and reggae sound. This time, they boldly covered Anri's “Shiness Boy,” composed by Toshio Kadomatsu and released in 1983, with lyrics in Spanish. The arrangement is of course their own gokigenre! Of course, the arrangement is their own unique, groovy Ska tune, and you can't help but dance to it! The B-Side features the Nightlight Mix, which has been converted to a lovers rock beat and given a strong dub treatment. Both singles are sure to be a big hit on the dance floor!
